A Starbucks customer has faced widespread criticism after a barista shared their extraordinarily sweet custom order on TikTok, sparking a heated debate about coffee culture and excessive sugar consumption.

The Controversial Custom Creation

The coffee chain Starbucks, founded in 1971, offers an extensive menu of beverages that customers can heavily customise according to their preferences. While popular drinks include lattes, flat whites, cappuccinos, and Americanos, some patrons take personalisation to extreme levels.

One such order came under fire when barista Julianna filmed herself preparing the divisive beverage behind the counter. The drink contained twelve pumps of white mocha sauce combined with a single shot of espresso, which was described as being added "for balance."

Construction of the Sugary Beverage

After mixing the white mocha and espresso, extra caramel sauce was swirled around the interior of a takeaway cup. The barista then added milk and ice before topping the creation with cold foam and a generous drizzle of additional caramel sauce.

In the caption accompanying the viral footage, Julianna simply wrote: "YUMMYYYYY 500+ grams of sugar to start the day." The video has since amassed more than 22.5 million views, with thousands of TikTok users flooding the comments section to share their reactions.

Mixed Reactions from Social Media

Many viewers expressed disbelief at the order's composition. One person quipped: "Same people who call themselves coffee addicts by the way." Another commented: "Being a barista taught me that so many people really don't like coffee and are really in denial about it."

A third observer noted: "Even a tiramisu has more coffee than this. That's not a coffee," while a fourth remarked: "So they basically wanted flavoured milk."
