Sainsbury's has introduced new gingerbread-flavoured tea bags priced at £2 for a box of 20, and shoppers are already racing to get their hands on them as autumn approaches.
The tea, part of a new range of biscuit-inspired brews, also includes a custard cream variant, which costs £2 for 40 bags. The products were revealed in a social media post by New Foods UK and have since been shared across Instagram and Facebook by various food accounts.
Mixed reactions online
Reactions to the new addition have been divided. Many are eager to try the tea, while others are sceptical, with one commenter saying it “doesn't sound nice” and imagining it would taste like soggy biscuits.
One excited shopper wrote: “Yummy yummy yummy!” Another added: “I got gingerbread today!” However, a less enthusiastic response read: “No offence, but it doesn't sound nice. I'm imagining what your tea tastes like when you drop your ginger biscuit in it after dunking it.”
Custard cream version praised
As of now, the gingerbread tea is not listed on the Sainsbury's website, but the custard cream version has earned a 4.5 out of five rating. Customers have praised its flavour, with one saying it “satisfies my sweet craving without eating a biscuit.” Another noted it's “one of my favourite teas,” while a third described it as having a lingering but not overpowering taste.
