Royal Mail has warned of disruption to mail delivery across 77 UK postcode areas this weekend (Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2). Weekend deliveries will go ahead on Saturday for both letters and parcels, while Sunday will see parcel deliveries only. However, some areas face delays, including Barry, Carmarthen, Dudley, Milton Keynes, Minehead and Wolverhampton.
What Royal Mail said
Royal Mail said: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers."
It added: "We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive. We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding."
How to opt out of neighbour deliveries
Royal Mail has also reminded customers they can stop mail being left with a neighbour by displaying a sticker on their letterbox. This applies both to having your own post handed to a neighbour and to being asked to accept a neighbour's mail.
Royal Mail explained: "If you'd prefer not to have any of your items delivered to a neighbour, you can opt out by displaying a sticker at your address. After we've received your details, we'll send you a sticker for you to display on or near your letterbox. You should receive the sticker within four working days of completing the form."
"Once the opt-out sticker is on display, we won't deliver your mail to a neighbour or ask you to accept your neighbour's mail. You can order additional or replacement stickers via the online form. If you want your items left with your neighbour when you're not home, but don't want to receive their undelivered mail, just tell the post person when they arrive."
