A Father's Nostalgic Journey to West Yorkshire's Final Wimpy Outlet
A content creator known as Just Deano embarked on a sentimental visit to the sole remaining Wimpy restaurant in West Yorkshire, located on Cloth Hall Street in Huddersfield. Accompanied by his daughter, he aimed to determine whether the iconic burger chain still matched his cherished memories from the 1990s.
Expecting 1990s Prices, Facing Modern Reality
Before entering, Deano expressed his hopes to his 39,300 subscribers, stating, "You guys know my favourite burger joint is Five Guys - but it is so expensive these days! I am going to see if this is 90s prices, 90s quality, that sort of thing." However, he was quickly confronted with a stark contrast to his expectations.
The bill for their meal totalled an astonishing £47.60, covering two burgers, chicken strips, mozzarella melts, six onion rings, steakhouse seasoned chips, desserts, a milkshake, and a Pepsi float. Deano highlighted his shock by repeating the price of his quarter pounder bacon cheeseburger: "£7.85 though."
Mixed Reactions to Food Quality and Value
Despite the price surprise, Deano offered a nuanced review of the food. He described the patties as "not really the best quality" but noted they were "super fresh", positioning them between Burger King and McDonald's in quality. His burger featured "proper bacon" and crisp salad, earning it praise for freshness.
However, the onion rings were a "biggest disappointment and let-down" as they weren't freshly made. In contrast, the chicken strips received glowing reviews: "Super fresh. Red hot. Nice bit of chicken in there, nice seasoning on the coating, very crispy, not processed at all." He even hailed the raspberry cheesecake as one of the finest he'd ever tasted, with an "unbelievable" flavour.
Reflections on Budget and Nostalgia
Reflecting on the experience, Deano acknowledged that the bill could have been reduced by skipping extras like onion rings and mozzarella sticks or opting for normal drinks instead of milkshakes and floats. He mused, "I wonder if they ever do a day like in the pubs where they're putting the prices back to the 1990s price." Overall, he rated the visit seven-and-a-half out of ten.
The video sparked nostalgic responses from viewers, with one recalling Wimpy's peak in the 1970s and others sharing fond childhood memories. Wimpy, originally established in America but thriving in the UK after its U.S. decline, now has only about 61 outlets nationwide, according to reports.
