Nexgrill has issued a voluntary recall of over 10.2 million metal-wire bristle grill brushes sold at Home Depot, following reports of bristles detaching and causing serious internal injuries.
The recall, announced on Thursday, covers six models sold from 2015 to 2026. The brushes have metal wire bristles attached to either a black plastic or bamboo wood handle, with the Nexgrill logo on the handle. Models affected include the 19-inch grill brush (530-0024), grill cleaning brush with scraper (530-0024G), long handle grill brush (530-0034), grill brush and scraper (530-0039), grill brush with scrub pad (530-0041) and wood handle grill brush (530-0042).
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, at least 68 incidents of bristles detaching have been reported, with five cases requiring medical attention to remove bristles from the digestive tract or throat. The brushes were priced between $5 and $15.
Consumers are urged to stop using the brushes immediately and contact Nexgrill for a full refund in the form of a gift card. To register, consumers must upload a photo of the brush with a registration code and their initials to the recall website. After confirmation, they will receive disposal instructions. The gift card value ranges from $5 to $15 depending on the model.
Nexgrill stated: 'Safety is our top priority. Our commitment includes providing clear instructions to examine the brush before use and discard it if any bristles are loose.' The company also advised disposing of brushes even if they appear undamaged.
