Nationwide Issues 5-Day Warning on Current Account Access Delays
Nationwide 5-Day Warning on Current Account Access

Nationwide Building Society has issued a reminder about account rules after a customer reported being unable to view their new FlexAccount in the mobile app. The clarification comes ahead of an expected announcement regarding a bonus payment scheme for members.

Customer Query on App Display

A customer who already held a savings account with Nationwide opened a new FlexAccount current account but found it was not appearing in the iOS app. The customer expressed frustration, stating, "Thought in digital age it would be pretty quick for the new account to appear in the app." Nationwide offers both the standard FlexAccount and the premium FlexPlus account, which includes extras like travel insurance and mobile phone cover.

Nationwide's Response

Nationwide responded to clarify the standard procedure: "New accounts can take up to five working days to appear online. If it is not showing alongside your savings account after this time, please give us a call on 03457 302011 or pop into your local branch with ID, so we can look into this further." The following day, the customer confirmed the account had become visible. Over seven million customers use the Nationwide app to check accounts, make payments, and access mini-statements.

Fairer Share Bonus Payments

Nationwide members are awaiting news on whether they will receive another Fairer Share payment this year. The mutual has issued three rounds of £100 payments over the past three years, distributing profits to members. Last year, more than four million customers received the bonus.

Eligibility for the previous payment required holding a qualifying current account along with a qualifying savings account or mortgage. The building society is expected to announce details for this year's scheme alongside its full-year results in May.

A Nationwide spokesperson stated: "Nationwide aims to make a Fairer Share payment again this year, subject to financial performance and Board approval. Any announcement, including eligibility criteria and amount, will be made on 21 May at Nationwide's end-of-year financial results."

Rachel Springall, finance expert at Moneyfactscompare.co.uk, commented: "Nationwide have consistently offered the Fairer Share payment over the past three years, and they hope to do it again. However, it is all down to the performance of the mutual, so this is what members need to be aware of this year. It is also important that members check if they meet the terms to be eligible for the payment moving forward."
