Morrisons, which spent most of July as the most expensive supermarket for a basket of essentials, has dropped to joint third cheapest after two price cuts this week.
The retailer reduced the price of its Savers tea bags and butter, bringing its total for the basket of eight items down to £13.32, tying with Asda. Lidl remains the cheapest for a fourth consecutive week at £13.12, despite a slight increase in the price of beans, followed closely by Aldi at £13.13.

The comparison tracks the cost of basics like bread, milk, coffee, tea bags, butter, beans, chicken, and beef mince at the six main supermarkets. Tesco is the most expensive for a second week running at £13.50, with Sainsbury's second most expensive at £13.37.
Not all retailers agree with the findings. Aldi has argued that the products aren't like-for-like, saying its own Diplomat Red Label tea bags and coffee are of 'higher quality' than the comparative products used, and its tins of beans are heavier than some other retailers'.
Retailer responses
An Aldi spokesperson said: "Our customers know they can always count on us for great value across the board, without needing to join a club or show a loyalty card. That’s why Which? has named us Cheapest Supermarket of the Year for five years running."
Sainsbury's also said the 'review of a limited number of products does not reflect the fantastic value' customers will find in store, adding it's 'committed to offering customers great choice and value when they shop with us'.
A spokesperson for Asda said: "Asda is delivering unbeatable value on the products families buy most, from everyday essentials to the big brands they know and love."
Morrisons previously said it 'remains committed to providing good, honest value' and is 'working hard to keep prices down and competitive so customers can spend less while still enjoying the quality Morrisons is famous for'.
