Urgent Product Recalls Issued in March with Perfumes, Appliances and Toys Posing Risks

Shoppers across the United Kingdom are being urged to stop using a range of products immediately due to potential safety risks identified this month. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has updated its recall list for March, featuring celebrity fragrances, children's toys, beauty gadgets, and household appliances that present serious hazards.

Rihanna Fragrances Contain Prohibited Chemicals

Three Rihanna scents available at Savers Health and Beauty have been urgently recalled due to containing prohibited substances. The perfumes present what authorities describe as a serious chemical risk as they contain butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA/lilial) and/or hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde.

Both substances are banned in cosmetic goods under UK regulations. BMHCA may damage the reproductive system, potentially compromise the wellbeing of an unborn baby, and trigger skin reactions in users.

The impacted products include:

  • Rihanna Kiss 15ml EDP - 0608940572252
  • Rihanna Riri 15ml EDP - 0608940560389
  • Rihanna Rogue 15ml EDP - 0608940559437

Consumers who have purchased any of these fragrances should stop using them immediately and return them to their point of purchase for a full refund.

Tower Air Fryers Pose Fire Hazard

Multiple Tower air fryer models have been recalled due to presenting a significant fire hazard. These products, stocked at retailers including Sainsbury's, Lidl, Robert Dyas, B&M, Poundland, Tesco and the Tower website, can overheat and catch alight during operation.

The affected models fail to meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. The recalled products include:

  • T17023 Tower 2.2Ltr Manual Air Fryer
  • T17061BLK Tower 4Ltr Manual Air Fryer
  • T17067 Tower 4Ltr Digital Air Fryer (Sainsbury’s SKU: 143897281)
  • T17087 Tower 2Ltr Compact Manual Air Fryer
  • T17129L Tower Vortx 8L Air Fryer (Lidl)
  • T17129 Tower Vortx 8L Air Fryer (Argos)

Owners of these air fryers should unplug them immediately and contact the retailer for a refund.

Sand Toys Contaminated with Asbestos

A selection of stretchy sand-filled toys have been recalled due to potential asbestos contamination. These products were available at Matalan, Hobbycraft, The Entertainer, Tesco and additional retailers.

The impacted items include:

  • Glow-in-the-dark Jumbo Monkey - 17741
  • Funkee Small Axolotl - 17459
  • Funkee Monkee Mega - 41929
  • Galaxy Jumbo Monkey - 17736
  • Gold Jumbo Monkey - 17451
  • Funkee Small Dogs - 42228
  • Funkee Jumbo Dog - 17409

Consumers should stop using these items immediately and ensure they're kept well away from children. If the sand remains in its original packaging, place it inside a heavy-duty plastic bag, seal it securely with double tape, label it clearly and store in a safe location out of children's reach.

If the sand has already been opened, clean any areas where the product was handled using damp cloths to prevent dust creation. Wear protective gloves and a face covering during this process. Double bag the sand, gloves, face covering and cloths, and keep youngsters away from locations where the sand has been handled until thoroughly cleaned.

Dispose of the product with regular household rubbish, or return to the shop where indicated by the retailer for a complete refund.
