Lloyds trials 10% cashback for customers in Exeter and York

Lloyds Bank is trialling a 10% cashback reward for customers who spend with independent businesses in two UK cities, as part of a scheme supporting local high street firms. The trial is running in Exeter and York, offering eligible Lloyds customers money back when they shop with independent businesses that bank with the lender.

The offer applies at participating independent businesses, with cashback paid directly into customers' accounts. Lloyds says there are plans to expand the offer following the trials, with the initiative forming part of its "wider work in communities across the UK".

How the trial works

Customers need to activate the perk and pay with a credit or debit card issued by the bank. Offers should appear in the Rewards section of the Lloyds app, depending on the postcode linked to the customer's account.

Businesses confirmed to take part in the pilot include Dusk Bar (York), Durham Ox (York), Chris Sellers Tyres (York), The Holt (Exeter), Oriel's (Exeter), The Milky Way Adventure Park (Exeter), The Marine in Dawlish (Exeter), Bicton Botanical Gardens (Exeter), World of Country Life (Exeter) and Kit Heath (Exeter).

Support for local economies

Ruchir Rodrigues, MD, business and innovation banking at Lloyds, said: "Independent businesses are at the heart of thriving local economies. The trial gives Lloyds business customers another way to raise their visibility and connect with Lloyds consumers through their Lloyds mobile banking app, while helping us understand how we can support local businesses to grow."

He added: "We're excited to learn from the launch in York and Exeter as we explore whether the offer could support more communities across the UK."

Since January, Lloyds Banking Group has paid out more than £16 million in cashback to customers. Those listed have confirmed their participation, with offers becoming available in the Lloyds app as they go live.
