Lloyds Bank has issued an update regarding email messages sent to customers about their credit scores, following a customer complaint about receiving multiple emails. The customer expressed frustration, stating, "Why do you keep sending me emails about my (excellent) credit score? What does it achieve? Do you want me to spend more money or something?" The customer added that the messages were "getting quite tiresome."
Lloyds Explains Purpose of Credit Score Emails
In response, Lloyds Bank clarified that the emails are intended to keep customers informed about their credit health and flag any unusual activity, rather than encourage additional spending. The bank stated, "Those emails are meant to keep you informed about your credit health and flag anything unusual, rather than encourage extra spending." Lloyds also noted that a good credit score can help customers access better rates when they need credit, but there is no expectation to take out any products.
Guidance on the Lloyds website further explains that when applying for credit, lenders and service providers check credit records as part of their decision-making process. A good credit score increases the likelihood of being offered better interest rates and higher credit limits.
Lloyds Banking Group Allows Cross-Brand Branch Use
Separately, Lloyds Banking Group has issued a message encouraging customers to use branches of any brand within the group. A sign at the Lloyds Bank in Devizes, aimed at Halifax customers, read: "Hello Halifax customers? Did you know? You can use Lloyds branches to manage your Halifax account. Speak to us today." Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland are all part of Lloyds Banking Group.
A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group confirmed the initiative, saying, "We're always looking for ways to make banking easier and more flexible for our customers. So last year we offered Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland customers the option to use branches of any brand for their in-person banking, alongside our apps, mobile messaging, and telephone services." Customers can check local banking services on the Lloyds Bank website.
