Liverpool restaurant's emotional 'this isn't goodbye' message

Bella Cucina, an Italian restaurant on Rose Lane in Liverpool, has issued an emotional farewell to customers after plans to redevelop its building were approved. The restaurant says it will search for a new home nearby before closing in three years.

Redevelopment plans approved

Liverpool City Council approved plans for a new commercial unit and nine apartments, to be known as Roseville Place, at 70-72 Rose Lane. The site currently houses Bella Cucina and Turkish restaurant Gustum. Developers Falconer Chester Hall and Roman Summer Associates said the project will make "a positive contribution to Rose Lane and the surrounding area".

The building, constructed in 1927, originally operated as a Co-Op until the 1980s. Since then, it has housed bakeries, an electrical shop, and several restaurants.

Community reaction

Members of the public previously expressed mixed feelings about the plans, with some saying they will "change the makeup of the area".

In an Instagram post, Bella Cucina thanked customers and promised "this isn't goodbye". The post said: "To our wonderful community. Many of you have now heard the news that the planning application for the redevelopment of 70–72 Rose Lane has been approved. This means that, in the coming years, Gustum and Bella Cucina will eventually make way for a new development."

Looking to the future

The restaurant emphasised it will remain open for the next three years and will search for a new location nearby. The post added: "During this time, we will also be searching for a new home nearby so we can continue serving the community we love. If you know of a suitable location or can help in any way, we’d truly appreciate your support."

The statement concluded: "So this isn’t goodbye. It’s simply the beginning of a new chapter. For the next three years, let’s continue sharing great food, laughter and unforgettable moments together. And wherever our next home may be, we’ll be there to welcome you with the same warm hospitality and delicious food you’ve always known."
