An Illinois man, who has chosen to remain anonymous and goes by the nickname 'Lucky,' has claimed a $1 million prize from a scratch-off lottery ticket. The winning ticket was purchased at a Mobil gas station in Lombard, DuPage County, during a work break earlier this month. Lucky officially claimed his prize on April 10.
'I just celebrated my birthday a few weeks ago, so this win feels like the perfect gift,' he said. 'It's especially exciting since I bought the ticket at a store I visit regularly.'
Not His First Win
This is not the first time Lucky has experienced lottery success. He has previously won approximately 20 smaller prizes, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. However, this $1 million windfall is by far his largest.
Plans for the Winnings
Lucky intends to use his winnings to purchase a new home, update his wardrobe, and invest in his family's future. The windfall provides a significant boost to his financial plans.
Retailer Bonus and Taxes
The Mobil gas station where the winning ticket was sold will receive a $10,000 retailer bonus as a reward for selling the lucky ticket. The winnings are subject to Illinois' 4.95 percent income tax, meaning Lucky will take home a substantial portion of the prize after taxes.
Lucky's story serves as a reminder that sometimes, a quick stop during a work break can lead to life-changing fortune.
