Best Used Electric Car of the Year Named: Hyundai Ioniq 5 Tops List
Hyundai Ioniq 5 Named Best Used Electric Car of the Year

Auto Express has named the Hyundai Ioniq 5 as the best used electric car on sale in the UK, a choice that reflects growing interest in electric vehicles amid rising petrol and diesel prices.

The Ioniq 5, a large five-door hatchback from the Korean manufacturer, was first released in 2021. Five years on, used versions can be bought for as little as £13,000.

Why the Ioniq 5 Won

Auto Express highlighted the car's futuristic styling and practical features as key reasons for its selection. The publication noted that the tech-filled cabin is packed with equipment, and the long wheelbase ensures plenty of room for the entire family.

According to Auto Express, all versions, even those with a single motor driving the rear wheels, handle well, and every model will comfortably do north of 200 miles on a charge. Many Ioniq 5s will still have part of their original five-year manufacturer warranty intact.

Electric Appeal Grows as Fuel Costs Rise

The choice comes at a time when petrol and diesel prices have surged, with diesel surpassing the £2 per litre barrier in 2026. As a result, electric cars, both new and used, have become more appealing to buyers.

Alternative: A Petrol MINI Clubman

For those not ready to go electric, a petrol MINI Clubman Cooper S is suggested as a practical alternative. The Cooper variant is described as extremely practical, economical, and comfortable, with a 1.5 three-cylinder engine that offers plenty of torque despite its 134bhp output.

The recommendation is personal, as the Clubman may not suit a family of four, but it serves as a good allrounder for those seeking a non-electric option.
