Home Bargains' own-brand wet mop cloths have outperformed the more expensive Flash Speedmop wipes in a direct comparison, offering better moisture and a preferred scent at a fraction of the cost.
Samantha Bartlett, Assistant Editor for Social News at the Manchester Evening News, has been a long-time user of Flash Speedmop wipes since purchasing the mop. However, she noticed that the original textured blue strip, which helped tackle tough dirt, has been phased out in newer versions of the official refills.
The replacement design features a textured cloth pattern with raised bumps across the whole surface, but Bartlett feels the new wipes are not as effective as the old ones. She also noted that some standard refill packs now include a green strip instead of the blue one, but she has not been able to find these in stores.
Cheaper Alternative Tested
Seeking a more affordable option, Bartlett headed to Home Bargains, where her mother had told her about their own-brand Power Action wet mop cloths priced at £2.99 for 24 wipes. In comparison, Flash wipes typically cost £7 for a box of 24 in most stores, making the Home Bargains version a potential saving of £4.
In her full video review, Bartlett concluded that the Home Bargains wipes were just as good as the Flash ones. In fact, she preferred the lemony scent of the Home Bargains version and found them to be more moist. They also cleaned just as effectively as the new Flash wipes, which lack the textured strip.
Converted to the Cheaper Option
Bartlett stated she is now a total convert and will not be spending extra on Flash wipes unless she can find the ones with the strip. Even then, she noted that £4 is a significant amount to pay just for that feature.
For those who specifically want a textured strip, but cannot find the Flash version, an alternative is available on Amazon: PARES2GO Wet Mop Cloths Refills with Scrub Strip, priced at £14.99 for 60 or £24.99 for 120.
