As spring arrives and outdoor activities increase, many are finding that white garments are becoming marked with yellow stains from sweat, deodorant, or sunscreen. These stubborn marks often persist even after washing at high temperatures.
Cleaning experts at Shark Clean have shared a simple, cost-effective solution using baking soda, which costs as little as 65p from supermarkets. The specialists recommend making a paste from baking soda and water, then applying it directly to the yellowed areas.
Baking soda works as an absorbent, neutraliser, and gentle abrasive to lift stains. For best results, leave the paste on for 20 minutes, or overnight for tougher marks. After treatment, launder the garment on a regular cycle, repeating if necessary.
For sunscreen stains, often found around the neck, the experts suggest soaking the item in hot water mixed with washing powder or white vinegar. Submerge the clothing for a short while before washing as usual.
For particularly stubborn stains, an oxygen-powered stain remover can be used, or the baking soda paste can be left for at least 30 minutes before rinsing and machine washing. Ensure the clothing is fully dry before checking the result.
