Shopping expert Jordon Cox, known online as the Couponkiduk, has shared a tip for Costco shoppers on how to identify the best bargains by looking at the last digits of an item's price. The wholesale retailer, which sells products in bulk at discounted prices to members, has become a common presence across parts of the UK.
How to decode Costco prices
According to Cox, the ending of a price tag reveals how much of a saving you are making on a product. He explained: "Finding a .69 at Costco can mean you've scored. The way prices end tells you if it's a good deal or not. Prices ending .99 are just the standard price. If a price ends in .97, that's a manager's special and usually cheaper than supermarkets. If it ends in .49 or .69, that means it's a manufacturer's deal, so you could be getting a good price."
Best deals in the store
Cox also highlighted the most valuable price ending to look for. He said: "But if you find a .00, these are bargain-basement buys and quite often the best deals in the store." He added: "Also… an asterisk in the top right corner means it's not being restocked."
Saves real money
Shoppers shared their reactions to Cox's Instagram post. One said: "The .97 and .00 endings are the ones to hunt for — .99 is just the regular price, so knowing the code stops you thinking everything in Costco is automatically a deal. Checking the ending before the item goes in the cart is a tiny habit that saves real money." Another commented: "Never ever seen 00 at Costco," while a third added: "If only it was really that quiet last time we went it was horrendous." Another shopper asked: "Great tip, I had no idea the price endings meant that much. Is it the same in every Costco?." One person noted the challenge of access: "Thing is, it's not easy to get a membership to shop in there."
