Air fryers have become a staple in many kitchens, but keeping them clean is essential for performance. A TikTok cleaning guru known as Mama Mila has revealed a simple, scrubbing-free method using two common kitchen items: baking soda and washing-up liquid.
To start, remove the air fryer basket and place it in the sink. Coat any stubborn food and grime generously with baking soda, then drizzle washing-up liquid over the top. Pour boiling water from the kettle over the mixture, which will make the baking soda fizz and help loosen burnt-on residue.
Leave the basket to soak, allowing the ingredients to work together. The abrasive nature of baking soda breaks down greasy residue, while washing-up liquid adds surfactants that help water and oil mix, lifting dirt. The washing-up liquid also tackles bacteria that baking soda cannot reach, ensuring the appliance is hygienic.
Once the grease and grime have loosened, simply pour away the dirty water—no scrubbing required. For tough spots, a baking soda paste can be used instead. Baking soda also acts as a natural deodoriser, neutralising odours by reacting with acidic particles, as explained by baking brand Dr Oetker.
