A recent head-to-head test of two no-rinse patio cleaners has revealed that a budget-friendly option can be just as effective as a pricier alternative, with both products significantly reducing algae and moss within 48 hours.
The Experiment
TikTok user Jade Doutch, a gardening enthusiast, decided to compare two popular no-rinse patio cleaners to see which performed better. She divided her patio into two halves and applied a different cleaner to each side. On one half, she used Patio Magic Mould and Algae cleaner, a 2.5-litre bottle priced at £9.99 from The Range. She diluted it with water at a four-to-one ratio as per the instructions, applying it with a watering can. On the other half, she tested the Jarders Spray and Leave cleaner, which comes in a 5-litre container for £16.95 from the official Jarders website. This product required a five-to-one dilution, which Jade noted worked out to a similar cost per use.
Results After 48 Hours
After letting both sections dry for two days, Jade returned to inspect the results. She found that both cleaners had performed equally well, with a substantial amount of green marks disappearing. However, she noted that some areas still needed extra attention, so she used a pressure washer to finish the job. Jade admitted that using the pressure washer somewhat defeated the purpose of a no-rinse product, but she pointed out that the process took less than an hour, compared to the usual whole afternoon required for pressure washing alone.
Verdict
Jade shared her honest opinion: 'Yes it does work, yes I would recommend it, but my favourite was the Patio Magic.' Commenters on her video agreed, with many praising Patio Magic. One user advised leaving the product on for at least a week before power washing for better results, while another suggested using a soft brush to spread it further and a paintbrush for ornaments and fencing. A third commenter recommended Spear and Jackson from Home Bargains as an alternative.
Overall, the test demonstrated that no-rinse patio cleaners can be highly effective, and that a budget-friendly option like Patio Magic can rival more expensive brands, making patio cleaning quicker and easier for homeowners.
