Buc-ee's Receives F Rating from BBB Despite Cult Following and Expansion
Buc-ee's Gets F BBB Rating Amid Rapid National Growth

Buc-ee's Faces BBB Backlash with Failing Grade

The iconic Texas-born travel centre Buc-ee's, renowned for its spotless bathrooms, devoted fanbase, and adorable beaver mascot, has encountered a significant setback. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has awarded the chain an F rating, the lowest possible grade, casting a shadow over its otherwise stellar reputation.

Complaints Pile Up as Chain Expands Nationally

This failing grade stems from nearly 90 customer complaints filed against the business, which the BBB states were largely ignored. Ratings from the organisation range from A+ to F, with the final score heavily influenced by a company's responsiveness and handling of grievances. In Buc-ee's case, the BBB explicitly cited "failure to respond to 88 complaint(s) filed against business" as a primary reason for the poor rating.

According to the BBB's website, customers have voiced a litany of issues. These include unresponsive customer service, perceived rudeness from staff, overpriced merchandise, inadequate parking facilities, and restrictive return policies. One particularly frustrated patron detailed severe parking congestion, noting, "There is never enough parking, so everyone leaves their vehicles at the pumps and the lines back up to the street on all locations, making the waiting time a half hour or more."

Customer Grievances Detail Price and Service Problems

Further complaints highlight dissatisfaction with product quality and pricing discrepancies. A customer criticised the food, stating, "When you do get inside the food is bland at best and generally horrible. It is definitely not Texas BBQ by any stretch of the imagination and is very overpriced." Another shopper reported a pricing error, exclaiming, "What a rip-off! Rack of Warmies marked as $24.95, but rang up as $29.99. The manager said they HAVE to charge what rings up."

Service failures were also a common theme. One consumer explained a failed refund attempt: "Returned an item five seconds after purchasing. They said [it] would be credited to my account. A month later, nothing." They added that attempts to contact the company were futile, with calls going directly to voicemail.

Rapid Expansion Continues Unabated

Despite this wave of negative feedback and the damning BBB rating, Buc-ee's ambitious national expansion shows no signs of slowing. The company currently operates 54 locations across 11 states and has aggressive plans to enter eight new states: Ohio, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.

As it plants its flag in new territories, Buc-ee's continues to promise its signature experience: supersized travel centres boasting over a hundred fuel pumps, stores packed with regional favourites like brisket and beaver nuggets, and those famously pristine restrooms.

Cult Following and Private Mystique

The chain enjoys a cult-like following, especially among Gen-Z, fuelled by its social media-friendly snacks and monumental scale. Fan favourites include the Sausage on a Stick, Dr Pepper Icees, and an extensive wall of jerky. The company remains privately owned and notoriously secretive about its financial details, adding to the enigmatic allure of a brand that has transformed the humble gas station into a cultural phenomenon.

The title of the world's largest convenience store currently belongs to the Buc-ee's in Luling, Texas. This colossal location, opened in 2024, spans approximately 75,000 square feet and features 120 fuel pumps, having taken the crown from a Tennessee outlet opened the previous year. This growth underscores the chain's powerful market presence, even as it navigates customer service challenges highlighted by the BBB's critical assessment.
