Brits' Mint Sauce Obsession: Ice Cream to Mojitos

Brits' Unconventional Love for Mint Sauce Revealed in New Study

A comprehensive survey conducted by supermarket giant Aldi has uncovered the extraordinary depth of Britain's affection for mint sauce, a condiment traditionally associated with Easter lamb roasts. The research indicates that a staggering 81% of Britons openly declare their love for the tangy green sauce, with many embracing it in remarkably unconventional ways.

Beyond Traditional Pairings

The study reveals that mint sauce has dramatically expanded beyond its traditional role. While 75% of Brits identify as "defiantly pro-mint sauce," their consumption habits tell a story of culinary rebellion. A significant 25% now drizzle it over chicken, 23% pair it with beef, and 14% even enjoy it with pork, demonstrating that the sauce is no longer confined to a single meat.

More surprisingly, 21% of respondents confessed to enjoying mint sauce straight from the jar with a spoon, while 6% admitted to drizzling it over ice cream. The condiment has also found its way into savory dishes like kebabs (20%) and bangers and mash (36%), with 22% pairing it with chips and 28% with mushy peas.

Regional Strongholds and Stockpiling Habits

Geographical analysis shows Wrexham (90%) and Bath (89%) as the UK's foremost mint sauce strongholds, closely followed by Gloucester (88%). The West Midlands emerged as the most mint sauce-loving county at 82%. Wales was identified as the nation's mint sauce stockpiling epicenter, with 42% of Brits overall admitting to keeping spare jars in their cupboards.

In London, an astonishing 6% of residents reported going through an entire jar of mint sauce daily. The obsession runs so deep that 16% have taken their own mint sauce to restaurants when it wasn't available on the menu.

Creative Culinary Applications

The survey uncovered truly innovative uses for mint sauce, with 20% of respondents stating they would use it as a replacement for fresh mint in a Mojito cocktail. This creative application underscores how Brits have integrated the condiment into diverse aspects of their culinary lives.

Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, commented: "It is official, we're a nation that loves mint sauce. From our research findings and sales data it's clear that the condiment isn't just for Easter."

Limited Edition Celebration

To celebrate this national passion, Aldi is releasing a limited-edition hand-bejewelled mini jar of Bramwells Mint Sauce, designed by luxury designer Maya Grisham. The supermarket is giving away these special jars to lucky winners who email their full name to mintedmintsauce@aldi.co.uk by April 2nd, 2026.

Sales data supports the survey findings, with Aldi selling over 3.4 million jars of Bramwells Mint Sauce in the past year alone, peaking around Easter and Christmas. The condiment maintains strong sales throughout the year, confirming that 71% of Brits believe it's not just for seasonal use, with 56% naming it their favorite condiment overall.

Aldi's Bramwells Mint Sauce (59p, 180g) remains available in stores, while 58% of Brits consider the versatile condiment "underrated" despite its widespread popularity and creative applications across the nation's kitchens.
