Billing Error Details

The company admitted that some customers with solar panels were incorrectly charged for electricity they exported to the grid. The error occurred between 2019 and 2023, and affected customers who had not been given the correct "smart export guarantee" tariff.

British Gas said it would automatically refund affected customers, with an average payment of £60. The total compensation is expected to reach £1.4 million.
