B&M has issued a recall for two brands of baby formula sold in its stores nationwide, warning that some products have passed their expiry date and may not be safe for consumption. The recall affects Aptamil and Kendamil products, with a total of five items identified.
The affected products include Aptamil First Infant Milk Powder (800g, product code 348054), Aptamil Follow-On Milk (4x200ml, product code 422087), and Aptamil Follow-On Milk (700g, product code 422056). Also recalled are Kendamil Infant Milk (800g, product code 422378) and Kendamil First Milk (250ml, product code 422381).
B&M's recall notice advises customers who have purchased any of these products with an expiry date of 08/10 or earlier not to use them and to return them to their local store for a refund or replacement. The retailer apologised for the inconvenience and said it was investigating how the products reached shelves.
Last month, a customer complained that baby formula bought from a B&M store was almost a year out of date. B&M apologised, stating the incident 'falls short of the high standards we set'. The recall was issued following the complaint.
Kendamil's website warns that expired formula 'might not be safe' for babies, as it can lose nutrients. Aptamil's manufacturer, Danone, said quality and safety are its 'number one priority' and that the products 'should not have been sold'. Danone also noted that promotional discounts on baby formula are banned under UK regulations to encourage breastfeeding.
