A former Great British Bake Off winner has shared a simple method to remove carpet dents using just two household items. Nancy Birtwhistle, who won the fifth series in 2014, demonstrated the technique on TikTok.
The method involves placing a cotton tea towel over the dent and using a steam iron on a medium heat setting. The steam helps the carpet fibres spring back into shape. Birtwhistle warned not to touch the iron directly to the carpet to avoid damage.
She recommended holding the iron above the cloth for 30–60 seconds and advised doing a patch test first. The technique works on most standard carpets, but antique or delicate rugs may require professional care.
Birtwhistle's tip comes from her book 'Clean and Green: 101 Hints and Tips for a More Eco-Friendly Home', which focuses on sustainable cleaning methods.
