Asda's own-brand ketchup has tied with Heinz as the UK's best, according to a consumer taste test, offering a much cheaper alternative.
Blind Taste Test Results
Consumer group Which? conducted a blind taste test with over 70 participants, scoring ketchups from UK supermarkets. Both Heinz and Asda's Classic Tomato Ketchup received an overall score of 77%, making them joint winners. Participants did not know which ketchup they were sampling, ensuring unbiased results.
Asda's ketchup was praised for its balance of tanginess, strength of flavour, and sweetness, while Heinz was noted for its richness and texture.
Price Comparison
Asda's ketchup is significantly cheaper: a 550g bottle costs £1.13, compared to Heinz's £3.00 for 460g at supermarkets like Sainsbury's. Asda's product also earned a 'Great Value' label from Which?, making it an attractive option amid rising living costs.
Popularity of Ketchup
Ketchup remains a staple in UK households, essential for full English breakfasts and summer BBQs. While Heinz has long been a favourite, this result shows budget-friendly alternatives can match the familiar taste.
