A cleaning expert has shared a simple method to clean air fryers using two common kitchen staples, eliminating the need for vigorous scrubbing. The hack involves bicarbonate of soda and washing-up liquid, which together break down stubborn grime and grease in the appliance's basket.
Chantel Mila, known as Mama Mila on TikTok, recommends removing the air fryer basket and placing it in the sink. Sprinkle a generous amount of bicarbonate of soda over any residue, then drizzle washing-up liquid on top. Pour boiling water over the mixture, which will fizz and help dislodge burnt-on food. Leave it to soak before draining the dirty water.
Dr Oetker explains that bicarbonate of soda's gentle abrasive properties lift stuck-on food without causing wear and tear. Vanguard Cleaning notes its alkaline nature neutralises acids in lingering odours, deodorising the basket. Washing-up liquid adds surfactants that help water and oil combine, targeting bacteria that bicarbonate cannot reach.
This method ensures the air fryer remains clean and efficient, with no scrubbing required. For particularly stubborn spots, a paste of bicarbonate of soda and water can be used instead of the soak. The hack has gained popularity as an easy, effective way to maintain the appliance's performance.
