Agony aunt: Cheating salesman told to come clean before he's exposed
Agony aunt tells cheating salesman to come clean or face exposure

A Daily Star reader who describes himself as a "shallow guy" with numerous secret lovers has been told by agony aunt Jane O'Gorman to come clean to his long-term girlfriend before the truth emerges from someone else.

The reader, a salesman, admits to living a double life, claiming he has lovers scattered around the country and enjoys occasional one-night stands with strangers. He says his girlfriend trusts him when he travels for work, and he uses his best mate as an alibi.

His friend recently criticised him, calling him selfish and foolish, and added that his girlfriend deserves someone better. The friend's partner has also advised him to end the relationship, warning she might reveal his secret life.

Reader defends his actions

The reader insists he is careful to cover his tracks and does not believe he is hurting anyone. He asks how to shut down his friend's partner, saying, "How dare anyone else tell me what to do with my time and energy?"

In her response, Jane O'Gorman challenges him to be honest with himself, asking whether he is out of control and whether he practises safe sex every time he cheats. She warns that discovering his infidelity would truly break his girlfriend's heart.

Advice to come clean

O'Gorman advises him to pick his moment and explain to his girlfriend that he is not the person she deserves. She states, "The fact is that not all relationships go the distance."

She concludes that his girlfriend deserves love and sexual contentment with someone on her side, and that both his mate and his mate's partner can see him for what he is.
