A cleaning enthusiast has shared a simple hack using a 70p bottle of washing-up liquid to keep sinks shiny and free from clogs. The tip, which costs less than a pound, promises to leave sinks smelling fresh and looking clean without the need for expensive products.
The trick involves squirting a generous amount of washing-up liquid over the sink area, including the tap, and scrubbing with a warm, wet sponge. The liquid quickly fluffs up, restoring shine to the surface. After scrubbing, the sponge is rinsed and used to wipe away residue, with the option to air dry or use a dry cloth.
To prevent clogs, the same washing-up liquid is squirted down the plug hole and left for 15 to 20 minutes before flushing with hot water. This helps break down grease, and the user reports no blocked drains since adopting the method as a regular cleaning task.
For stubborn stains, baking soda can be added to the washing-up liquid to boost cleaning power. Limescale build-up on taps can be tackled with white vinegar or lemon juice, which lift soap scum effectively.
