A California therapist is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly grooming, sexually assaulting, and raping a 17-year-old boy she was assigned to help at a juvenile facility.
Sofia Drotts, 26, worked as a behavioral health clinician at the Contra Costa County juvenile hall. Prosecutors say she groomed a minor identified as John Doe and engaged in a sexual relationship with him between April and July of this year after his release from the facility.
Investigation and Arrest
The Concord Police Department launched an investigation after receiving a tip from a supervisor in the probation department. Drotts was arrested on July 14 on a Ramey warrant.
She faces charges including two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, two counts of oral copulation of a person under 18, sexual penetration by a foreign object, two counts of sending harmful matter to a minor, and one count of possessing indecent images of children. In California, the age of consent is 18.
Statements from Officials
A statement from the District Attorney’s office said: “Contra Costa Superior Court will set an arraignment date for Drotts, where she will hear the charges against her.” It added: “If she enters a plea of not guilty, the next phase is to set a preliminary hearing of the evidence before the case can proceed to a trial.”
Concord Police said: "The Concord Police Department has arrested 26-year-old female Sofia Ann-Buitron Drotts following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct involving a 17-year old juvenile male. The investigation began after the Concord Police Department received information from the Contra Costa County Probation Department regarding concerns that a female temporary employee at Contra Costa County Health had engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with the juvenile male in Concord."
The police force added: “Detectives conducted an investigation and identified evidence supporting the allegations. Based on the findings of the investigation, the suspect was arrested pursuant to a Ramey warrant and booked on related charges. The investigation remains ongoing and we are not releasing any additional information at this time.”
