Blair McNally, a Scotland fan from East Ayrshire who became an internet sensation during the World Cup for his newfound passion for Mexican cuisine, has been announced as HelloFresh's first ever Official Mexican Menu Ambassador. The meal kit company has created a limited-edition recipe in his honour: Blair's Tartan Army Mexican Style Spiced Soup.
McNally, a Scottish football vlogger, gained viral fame during the tournament after sharing his enthusiastic discovery of tacos, spices, and authentic Mexican cooking. His posts captured the hearts of football fans across the UK, making him one of the competition's most unlikely breakout stars.
From viral sensation to official ambassador
HelloFresh announced the collaboration on Instagram with a video chronicling McNally's World Cup journey and his commentary-style posts about his love for all things Mexican. The caption read: "Scotland may be out of the World Cup, but Blair’s Mexican menu era is only just kicking off."
The exclusive recipe combines warming Mexican-inspired spices with sweet potato, butter beans, sweetcorn, and crusty ciabatta, blending Scottish comfort food with the flavours McNally celebrated throughout the tournament.
Limited-edition recipe available for one week
Blair's Tartan Army Mexican Style Spiced Soup will be available to order exclusively through HelloFresh from July 4 to July 10. The limited-edition offering gives UK households the chance to recreate a taste of McNally's World Cup adventure in their own kitchens.
Mimi Morley, Senior Recipe Development Manager at HelloFresh, said: "The world’s biggest football tournament has given us some unforgettable moments, but Blair's genuine excitement for discovering Mexican food became one of our favourites. His passion for the bold flavours, warming spices and vibrant ingredients that make Mexican cuisine so special was infectious, and it inspired us to create a recipe that captures that same sense of discovery."
Morley added: "We wanted to bring those flavours together in a comforting dish that people can easily recreate at home, while celebrating the way football has such a unique ability to connect people through food, culture and shared experiences."
Scotland's return to the World Cup
McNally's viral moment came after Scotland's return to the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, sparking celebrations across the nation. His love for Mexican food became a standout storyline, overshadowing even his enthusiasm in the stands.
HelloFresh's collaboration with McNally marks a unique crossover between football fandom and culinary culture, highlighting how the tournament can inspire new tastes and traditions.
