Manchester United have received encouraging news in their pursuit of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, who has reportedly turned down several contract offers from the Cherries. Meanwhile, former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly has given the green light for Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni to join United for a fee of £85 million.
Alex Scott Rejects Bournemouth Contracts
United's search for a marquee midfield signing has taken numerous turns this summer. After failing to sign Mateus Fernandes, who joined Tottenham for £85m, Scott has emerged as the top priority. According to The Athletic, Scott has rejected multiple contract offers from Bournemouth, whose existing deal runs until 2028. The 21-year-old is understood to welcome a transfer to Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick, now permanently appointed as United manager, is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of Champions League football. The club's top priority is filling the void left by Casemiro. Ederson is expected to arrive from Atalanta shortly, but a second midfield addition remains on the agenda, with Scott at the top of the list.
Tchouameni Green Light from Desailly
Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni has also been linked with a move to United, with his valuation reportedly set at £85m. Former AC Milan and Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly believes the Frenchman would be a perfect fit for the Premier League.
"I'm sure Aurelien Tchouameni would move to the Premier League and Manchester United is still a massive club; a massive name," Desailly told Sportscasting.com. "He had a difficult season, but at least he shows leadership. That's why when you talk about Ibrahima Konate or Tchouameni, I'll always choose Tchouameni because of his desire. And he also wears my No. 8 on his back, so I love him for this!"
Desailly added: "I believe that he has that little bit of leadership and the desire to bring the team all together. So it could be a good move for him, just like when Raphael Varane swapped Madrid for Manchester back in the day. So why not? I would encourage him to go for it and try the Premier League."
United's Transfer Strategy
United finished third in the Premier League last season and are looking to build on that momentum. With Champions League football to prepare for, Carrick needs to strengthen in several positions. The club's midfield overhaul is a key priority, with both Scott and Tchouameni seen as potential solutions to replace Casemiro.
Bournemouth do not want to sell Scott and had hoped to secure him on a new contract, but his reaction to their proposals has been welcome news for United. The player's current contract runs until 2028, meaning any deal would likely command a significant fee.
