Liverpool have received a significant boost in their efforts to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Ligue 1 club reportedly nearing a deal for Maghnes Akliouche, who could serve as a replacement. The Reds are seeking a new winger after a mixed season from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah's recent departure.
Barcola identified as top target
Although players such as Yan Diomande and Antonio Nusa have been considered, Barcola is understood to be Liverpool's priority signing. While a deal appeared unlikely weeks ago, the odds have now shifted substantially in Liverpool's favour.
PSG may be more open to a transfer now, as Fabrizio Romano claims the club is in advanced talks with AS Monaco to sign Akliouche. The report indicates that after four rejected offers, the finer details are being finalised, with an announcement expected imminently.
Akliouche's impressive campaign
The 24-year-old Akliouche had an outstanding 2025/26 season with Monaco, recording six goals and six assists in Ligue 1, earning a place in Didier Deschamps' France World Cup squad. If PSG finalise the deal, it would raise questions about Barcola's role in Luis Enrique's plans.
Liverpool have identified Barcola as their primary target to fill the void left by Salah, due to his strong form for club and country. After a Ligue 1 and Champions League-winning season with PSG, Barcola also impressed at the World Cup, strengthening his case for a move.
Enrique's stance and PSG's asking price
Enrique's recent comments on player commitment have increased the likelihood of Barcola's departure. The Spanish manager stated he only wants players fully dedicated to PSG, and with Barcola open to a move, he may not fit that criterion.
However, a major obstacle for Liverpool is PSG's asking price. Reports suggest PSG are demanding approximately £145 million to sanction Barcola's exit this summer, which would set a new Premier League record transfer fee. This contrasts with the CIES Football Observatory's valuation of around £85 million, while Liverpool are reportedly aiming for a deal near £100 million.
Alternative targets
Liverpool have other options if Barcola proves too expensive. Bournemouth's Rayan has been linked with a move to Merseyside, having scored five goals and provided two assists in the Premier League since joining in January. However, Bournemouth may block any move, as his release clause does not activate until next year.
Liverpool would also face competition from Barcelona and Bayern Munich for the 19-year-old if Bournemouth decide to sell. Additionally, the Reds have been linked with Brighton's Yankuba Minteh and FC Köln's Said El Mala as alternatives. Liverpool also signed Victor Munoz from Spain in a £34.5 million deal earlier this summer, providing further attacking depth.
