Stars of the upcoming second season of Celebrity Traitors are reportedly feeling paranoid about how the BBC series will portray them, according to Richard Osman. Speaking on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, the former Pointless host said the celebrities have not been given a cut of the show yet, adding: 'By the way, they never do a show where they haven't seen a cut of it beforehand.'
Celebrities' concerns over editing
Osman's co-host Marina Hyde claimed that the stars have 'asked for' screener episodes, but the BBC has not provided them. Osman continued: 'Everyone is nervous because they are professionals and they do understand, "What if they just keep in that one thing that I did and they don't keep in that thing?" So everyone will worry.'
He added: 'I think because of the way Studio Lambert makes television and the way that the BBC will edit it, everyone's going to be okay. But people are naturally paranoid beforehand because you go to sleep and you wake up thinking, "Oh my God, but what if I'm edited in this way, and this is such a huge deal and such a huge programme and what if this is not understood?"'
Format 'can be exposing'
Osman's comments echoed Hyde's earlier remarks, when she said many of the stars taking part will be used to executive producing the shows they're on. 'There is a real tendency to want to executive produce your arc on this show. And you can't,' said Hyde.
She continued: 'This format can be exposing and you think it isn't because you don't have to talk about your personal life. They don't have to see you brushing your teeth like they do on some other shows.'
Hyde also suggested the celebrities may have been 'lulled by last year into thinking [it's] just an immediate minting of national treasures,' adding: 'I think that this time it will be a very different game, which is what's so amazing about the format is that each time it's played out, it's iterated and what happened last time is fed into it.'
The upcoming series includes celebrities such as Michael Sheen, Romesh Ranganathan and Maya Jama. Metro contacted the BBC for comment on this story. Celebrity Traitors returns to BBC One on Thursday at 8pm.
