ITV's soap double bill has been shelved for tonight (Tuesday, September 29) as both Coronation Street and Emmerdale make way for live football. The broadcaster will air England's Nations League clash against the Czech Republic from 7pm, leaving no room for the usual weekday episodes.
Fans will have to wait until tomorrow (Wednesday, September 30) for the next instalments of their favourite soaps, which will return in their regular timeslots.
Football causes year of schedule upheaval
This is the latest in a series of football-related disruptions over the past year. The World Cup triggered constant schedule changes, followed by the Carabao Cup and now the UEFA Nations League. These tournaments have seen the soaps shunted around the schedule, with missing weekday episodes, occasional double-ups, and Sunday specials.
Wednesday's Coronation Street spoilers
Wednesday's episode picks up after Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) wakes up following her violent fall down the cellar steps in the Rovers, with no memory of who pushed her. This eases the pressure on her actual-but-accidental attacker, Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan).
Weatherfield copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) has been investigating, interviewing Carl (Jonathan Howard) and Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) as the last two people to see Eva. When Debbie found Carl's wallet stuffed with pound notes, she suspected he had attacked Eva while robbing the pub and reported him to Kit.
Elsewhere, Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) continues her mission to replace her sister Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), while Lucy Parkinson's (Anya Dewin) emotional outburst while sleepwalking causes further turmoil. In the next episode, Jodie fakes being stood up on a date to convince David (Jack P Shepherd) to share a bottle of bubbles with her. Carl becomes the prime suspect and is taken to the station for questioning, protesting his innocence as a guilt-ridden Sam watches. After grounding Lucy, Tim heads to the café but realises cash is missing from his wallet, with all eyes falling on Lucy.
Wednesday's Emmerdale spoilers
This week in Emmerdale, Kim Tate (Claire King) is in agony at being barred from visiting Joe (Ned Porteous) and Dawn Taylor's (Olivia Bromley) baby, with Joe's dedication to having the baby adopted unwavering. Despite her efforts, she calls in his surrogate dad, Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), to see if he can make a difference.
Sadie King's (Patsy Kensit) desperate search for Jimmy King's (Nick Miles) missing cash brought her into the orbit of the Milligans. While Caleb (William Ash) was quick to swat her away, Ruby (Beth Cordingly) was more receptive. After a few too many glasses of wine, Sadie admitted she was actually being swept off her feet by a rich man named Federico, despite supposedly being back with Jimmy.
In the next episode, Graham plants his foot firmly: if Joe goes ahead with the adoption, Graham will walk out of his life forever. Sadie's drunken admission comes back to bite her as Ruby starts peppering her with questions, and her former co-conspirator Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) tries to convince her to pull the plug on their scheme. Gabby Thomas' (Rosie Bentham) health continues to deteriorate, and as she and stepmum Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) clash over their business, she begins to cough blood into a tissue.
