Layla Drury, the 17-year-old forward, is set to become the youngest player to sign a professional contract with Manchester United Women, marking a historic milestone for the club's academy.
Record-Breaking Debut
Drury made her senior debut in January 2026 in an FA Cup tie against Burnley at the age of 16 years and 220 days, breaking the previous record set by Lauren James in 2018. She also scored in that 5-0 victory, becoming Manchester United Women's youngest goalscorer.
Last season, while still 16, Drury made seven appearances in all competitions for Manchester United, including five substitute appearances in the Women's Super League (WSL).
International Allegiance
Drury has represented both Wales and England at youth international level. She switched her allegiance to England in February 2026, further highlighting her potential.
According to sources, Manchester United plans for Drury to spend next season with the first team on a full-time basis, integrating her into the senior squad permanently.
Academy Success Story
Drury's progress is seen as a success for United's academy. The club is determined to develop young players to ensure the women's team operates sustainably in the future. She will be the first player to sign a professional deal with United prior to her 18th birthday.
