Halifax has responded to a customer's complaint regarding the closure of its branch at the Hunts Cross shopping centre in Liverpool, confirming that the outlet permanently shut its doors on June 8 as part of a nationwide reduction of 25 branches throughout June.
The customer contacted the bank to express dissatisfaction, stating: "That's not good enough for me I've been banking with Halifax since I was about 13 and this is the first time I want to leave and join another bank. End of the day cash is king and you are just pushing people away from that so I think it's time to leave."
Halifax's Explanation for Branch Closures
Halifax explained that branch decisions are based on factors such as customer banking preferences and the availability of nearby services. The bank directed the customer to its website for further guidance, but the customer was not satisfied with this response. Halifax encouraged the customer to send a direct message to elaborate on their concerns, but the customer felt they had already fully outlined their complaint.
The bank reiterated its position in a statement: "Branch decisions are based on a range of factors, including how customers use our services and the availability of alternative banking options nearby."
Upcoming Branch Closures in Liverpool
Further branch closures are scheduled for the rest of the year, including another Liverpool location: the Huyton branch will close on November 4. Halifax is also set to close branches in September, October, and November across the country.
In a significant change affecting all customers, Halifax is rebranding to operate under the Lloyds name. Halifax is already part of the Lloyds Banking Group, alongside Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland.
Rebranding Details
Guidance published on the Halifax website states: "The vast majority of Halifax branches will either rebrand to Lloyds, or you'll be served by an existing Lloyds branch in that community. If there are any changes to your branch, we'll let you know directly." The transition is expected to be completed by 2026.
