Tracy Flynn has departed from her position as chief executive of the Ayrshire Hospice, a role she held for four years with a salary exceeding £80,000 annually. Her tenure officially ended on June 19, 2026.
Interim Appointment
Hospice leadership swiftly appointed John Burns, former chief executive of NHS Ayrshire & Arran, as the interim chief executive. Flynn had previously served as interim CEO for 13 months after the departure of her predecessor, Carla McEwan, in March 2022.
Statement from the Hospice
An Ayrshire Hospice spokesperson confirmed: “Tracy has decided to leave the organisation to embrace a new challenge following a long and valued career with the Hospice, during which she held a number of roles including Staff Nurse, Specialist Palliative Care Nurse, Director of Patient and Family Services and, for the past four years, Chief Executive.”
The spokesperson added: “Professor Tom Steele, Chair of the Ayrshire Hospice Board, extended his thanks to Tracy on behalf of the staff and Board for her significant contribution and leadership during a period of change and historic importance for the organisation. While driving the Capital Build Project, her leadership helped ensure continuity of care and services throughout the decant from Racecourse Road, the successful return to the Ayrshire Hospice’s outstanding new home, and the transition into the important period following completion of the Capital Build Project.”
Transition Details
Flynn’s departure was communicated to hospice staff and volunteers the previous week. John G Burns OBE has been appointed interim chief executive while a formal recruitment process is undertaken to find a permanent successor.
