Yan Diomande Chooses PSG Over Liverpool in Transfer Blow
Yan Diomande Snubs Liverpool for PSG Transfer

Yan Diomande has reportedly chosen Paris Saint-Germain as his next destination, rejecting a move to Liverpool this summer. The RB Leipzig winger, currently at the World Cup with Ivory Coast, has informed the French champions of his preference, according to The Athletic.

Liverpool's Pursuit Stalls

Liverpool had identified Diomande as their top priority to succeed Mohamed Salah on the wing. The Merseyside club informed Leipzig earlier this month of their intention to table an offer worth approximately £86 million (€100 million). However, the Bundesliga side is holding firm for £112 million (€130 million), a sum that now appears unlikely to be met by Liverpool given the player's decision.

PSG, the reigning European champions, have emerged as the frontrunners. The 19-year-old Ivorian is said to be fully bought into PSG's long-term vision, harbouring ambitions of winning trophies regularly and claiming the Ballon d'Or.

Diomande's Changing Stance

Earlier this year, Diomande expressed a desire to play for Liverpool. "I want to play at Anfield, I want to play for Liverpool," he said. "I'm a big fan of Liverpool because my father's dream is to see me play at Anfield. So that's my dream."

However, more recent comments indicate a shift. "Paris Saint-Germain is a team I've loved since I was little," Diomande stated. "I think my father was a PSG supporter. It's a team I admire as a football fan." He added in a separate interview: "It would be a pleasure for me to come and play here with one of the biggest clubs. Adapting won't be difficult because of the language."

Impact on Liverpool's Summer Plans

Liverpool have already signed Victor Munoz from Osasuna for £34.5 million, who can play on both flanks. Diomande's rejection leaves a gap in their attacking options. The club may now need to explore alternative targets before the transfer window closes.

Diomande remains under contract with Leipzig and is focused on the World Cup. "I'm staying focused on the World Cup and then we'll see what happens," he said. "They'll sort things out between clubs."
