A murder mystery series hailed as 'addictive' by viewers is available to stream, and fans of Vera and Death in Paradise will love it. Rosemary & Thyme, which stars Felicity Kendal and Pam Ferris, was a hit with murder mystery enthusiasts when it first aired more than two decades ago. With episodes now available on ITVX, it is waiting to be discovered by a new audience.
The Plot
The series follows two keen gardeners: former police officer Laura Thyme (Pam Ferris) and Rosemary Boxer (Felicity Kendal), who has a doctorate in plant pathology and used to be a horticulture lecturer. They first meet over a case of diseased trees and end up solving something far more sinister. After becoming friends while cracking the case, they work together on several puzzling mysteries connected to the places they are gardening.
Background and Reception
The show started in 2003, with a second series following a year later. A third series began in 2005, but the show was dropped, with final episodes airing in 2006 and 2007. Despite its short run, Rosemary & Thyme has charmed viewers. One fan on IMDb.com called it 'the best series ever', adding, 'I wish there were 100 more episodes.' Another viewer described it as 'just plain fun', while someone else said they were 'devastated' by its cancellation, urging producers to 'make some more episodes.'
Viewer Praise
- 'If you enjoy good murder mysteries with a dash of clever fun, then this is a must for you to check out,' one fan remarked.
- 'This show is addicting. It's got everything you could possibly want: good scripts, drama, adventure, comedy, top notch guest stars, eccentric characters, beautiful locations, and great acting,' another impressed viewer noted.
- 'Of course I have grown up on Inspector Morse, Touch of Frost and Midsomer Murders, but Rosemary and Thyme so deserves to be up there with them,' commented somebody else.
- 'I was highly entertained by this programme... I thought the fact that they were gardeners was a unique hook that gave them reasonable access to the nooks and crannies of the parks and residences they were investigating, as well as a somewhat plausible excuse for stumbling over so many bodies,' another viewer observed. 'If you dig deep enough, wide enough and in enough places, you're bound to come up with something...'
