Rangers are likely to move for Hearts manager Derek McInnes if Danny Röhl completes a transfer to RB Salzburg. The Ibrox club and Salzburg are currently in negotiations regarding Röhl, who was appointed by Rangers last October. The 37-year-old began his coaching career within the RB network at Leipzig. There is a growing belief in Glasgow that he will accept Salzburg's offer, with a switch expected within days.
McInnes as Potential Replacement
In that scenario, Rangers are expected to turn their attention to McInnes. The former Rangers player guided Hearts to second place in the Scottish Premiership this season, with the Edinburgh club narrowly missing out on their first league title since 1960 on the final day after a defeat at Celtic Park. McInnes took over at Hearts after leaving Kilmarnock in the summer of 2025 and was named Scotland's manager of the year within 12 months.
McInnes previously rejected the opportunity to manage Rangers in 2017, but it would be surprising if the 54-year-old turned them down for a second time. Steven Gerrard, who previously managed Rangers, has also been linked with the post.
Hearts' Recent Developments
Rangers have already signed Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland after the striker exercised his right to leave Tynecastle for free at the end of the season. While any approach for McInnes would naturally be unwelcome, Hearts' reputation and profile have been boosted by the involvement of Tony Bloom and Jamestown Analytics.
