Newcastle United Issue Strong Transfer Stance on Bruno Guimaraes Amid Arsenal Links
Newcastle Stance on Bruno Guimaraes Amid Arsenal Interest

Newcastle United have issued a firm 'not for sale' stance on captain Bruno Guimaraes, according to sources close to the club, amid reported interest from Arsenal. The Brazil international, now 28, has been linked with a move to the Emirates after a polished performance for his country, providing two assists in a 3-0 win over Scotland.

Arsenal Interest Unconfirmed

Arsenal sources have stated that they have not firmed up their interest with an official enquiry and would require additional financial support to pursue a player entering his final years at the top level. Newcastle are aware that the reports have unsettled their fanbase, but their opening stance remains that Guimaraes is not for sale.

The Magpies have not received any official approach or offer for the midfielder, who had a £100 million minimum fee release clause in 2024. Despite previous talk of Manchester City showing interest, Newcastle did not receive a bid close to that figure.

Contract Situation and Future

Guimaraes set off for the World Cup with Brazil without signing a new contract. His current deal runs until 2028, and there is no indication of a new agreement at this stage. Speaking about the player earlier this year, head coach Eddie Howe said: "It's very difficult to sum it up quite quickly because I think he has been an incredible signing. You never quite know. I'd never met Bruno before, so it was a big signing because we needed Bruno to come in and be the player that he has been, but you never quite know how the dynamic and the chemistry is going to work. From the day that he turned up in his suit, when he showed great respect for the moment in his career, I thought, 'He's a good person' and he's gone on to great things."

Bruno's Views on Squad Depth

Guimaraes has not stayed quiet about Newcastle's slump from fifth to 12th place in the Premier League. In March, he said: "I think for next season, we are going to need more players to be honest with you, because I think the squad is a little bit short. We have seen it last year when we played in the Champions League, we lost some players for injury and then it was busy for us. I think we can improve our level because next year, our season will have one more competition. We need to work hard now, have an amazing holiday. We need to improve of course but we're very, very happy."
