Wine lovers are rushing to M&S to snap up a new drink that they 'need' this summer. The supermarket's latest offering, an all-British made wine, has already been crowned the 'wine of the summer' by many shoppers.
M&S Launches Summer Wine
As the UK experiences another heatwave, many are looking to relax in the warm sunshine with a nice glass of wine. M&S claims to have found the 'perfect wine for summer' with their new release. One of the most popular summer drinks, especially for wine lovers, is a bottle of prosecco or other sparkling wines. Ranging from bone-dry to sweet, these wines get their fizz from trapped carbon dioxide produced during natural fermentation. While only wines from France's Champagne region can legally bear the name, world-class bubbly is produced globally. Sparkling wine is popular in summer because it complements light dishes such as salads or barbecues.
The 'Wine of the Summer'
While there are several brands and types of rosé to choose from, some shoppers now claim to have found the 'wine of the summer' in M&S food halls. Taking to Instagram, Marks & Spencer shared a photo of their newest summer-inspired sparkling red wine, which mixes sparkling wine with the sweetness many love in a rosé.
"New in the M&S Foodhall - your favourite summertime fruit with your favourite summertime sip!" they wrote in the caption. They added: "Our Red Diamond Strawberry Royale celebrates the best of British super sweet Red Diamond Strawberries with English Sparkling Wine, crafted by the award-winning Balfour Winery."
On their website, they explain that its tangy yet creamy flavour profile works well with most summer dishes, from fresh seasonal salads to an aperitif, or paired with favourite summer desserts like Eton Mess or strawberries and cream. A 75cl bottle of M&S's Red Diamond Strawberry Royale currently retails at £15 on Ocado, while prices may vary in local M&S Foodhalls.

Shoppers soon took to the comments to share their thoughts, with many desperate to try the British-made wine. "I can't wait to try this," one person wrote, while another said: "I feel like this would go down way too easily." "Perfect for the summer!" someone else commented, and a fourth person imagined the combination of 'summer BBQ and this.' "We just need some sun," another user added. This isn't the only new wine release from M&S recently; they have also added a selection of delicious-looking rosé wines, which they claim work great with some picky bits.
