Manchester United appear on the verge of sealing Ederson's £35 million move from Atalanta. Now, the Red Devils have received the green light from former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from Real Madrid.
United Officials to Travel to Madrid for Tchouameni Talks
According to Diario AS, club officials are preparing to travel to Madrid to discuss a potential deal for the France international. Any sale sanctioned by Real Madrid this summer must surpass £85 million, meaning United will need to part with a substantial sum to secure his signature. The 26-year-old midfielder is reportedly eager to remain in Spain, but recent transfer dealings between the two clubs could facilitate the move.
Desailly Backs Tchouameni Move, Cites Varane Example
Speaking to sportscasting.com, Desailly pointed to Raphael Varane's successful transfer as a reason for Tchouameni to join United. He said: 'I'm sure Aurelien Tchouaméni would move to the Premier League, and Manchester United is still a massive club; a massive name. He had a difficult season, but at least he shows leadership. That's why when you talk about Konaté or Tchouaméni, I'll always choose Tchouaméni because of his desire.'
Desailly added: 'And he also wears my number 8 on his back, so I love him for this! I believe that he has that little bit of leadership and the desire to bring the team all together. So it could be a good move for him, just like when Raphaël Varane swapped Madrid for Manchester back in the day. So why not? I would encourage him to go for it and try the Premier League.'
Varane and Casemiro Paved the Way
Varane joined United in 2021 for approximately £41 million, making 95 appearances and winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Casemiro followed a year later, becoming a fan favourite with 160 appearances, 26 goals, 14 assists, and two domestic cup victories. His exit this summer sparked United's interest in Tchouameni, who could draw inspiration from his former Madrid teammates.
Ederson Deal Nearing Completion
Michael Carrick appears to have wrapped up the £35 million signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, despite some reports over the weekend. Once that deal is finalized, Carrick will be eager to strengthen his ranks further as his first full season as permanent manager approaches.
