Manchester United have completed the signing of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa after activating the £35 million release clause in his contract. The 29-year-old Belgium international becomes the second addition to Michael Carrick's squad this summer, following the arrival of Andrey Santos from Chelsea in a £50 million deal.
Midfield Rebuild Underway
United identified Tielemans as a target on Monday and moved quickly to secure his services. The Red Devils have been forced to reinforce their midfield after Casemiro left Old Trafford as a free agent at the end of last month following the expiration of his contract.
Tielemans brings valuable experience to the squad, having recently represented Belgium at the World Cup, where he scored two goals and helped his country reach the quarter-finals.
Further Transfer Business Expected
With Tielemans signed, attention now turns to other potential deals. Atalanta's Ederson remains a target, though an initial £35 million offer plus £3.8 million in add-ons is reportedly no longer expected to be completed. The move could be revisited later in the transfer window.
United will continue preparations for the new season, which begins on August 22 with an away fixture against newly-promoted Hull City at the MKM Stadium.
