Manchester United have reportedly made significant progress in their pursuit of an £80million-rated Premier League star, while Marcus Rashford's future remains uncertain. Michael Carrick has been confirmed as Manchester United's new permanent manager, and the club is already active in the transfer market despite the World Cup.
Fernandes 'Agrees Personal Terms'
Mateus Fernandes has reportedly agreed personal terms with Manchester United, according to talkSPORT. The Portugal international, who joined West Ham from Southampton for £25m last summer, is now a priority target for the Red Devils. Tottenham have also shown interest, but United are leading the race.
West Ham are demanding upwards of £80m for the 21-year-old, but United are reluctant to meet that valuation. Fernandes is said to be satisfied with the package offered by United following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League. He has essentially approved the move and is prepared to let both clubs negotiate a fee.
New Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho also admires Fernandes, but Los Blancos have already spent heavily this summer. With two seasons of Premier League experience, Fernandes is unlikely to feature in the Championship, giving West Ham leverage as they seek to sell their star.
Spurs in for Rashford
Tottenham have expressed interest in Marcus Rashford, according to The i Paper. The England striker is currently on World Cup duty but remains at the center of transfer speculation. After a successful loan spell at Barcelona, the Catalans opted not to activate his buy clause, opening the door for Spurs.
Tottenham have already strengthened their defense with Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, and Marcos Senesi, but manager Roberto De Zerbi has yet to add attacking reinforcements. With Dejan Kulusevski missing the entire 2025/26 season due to injury, and Dominic Solanke, Mohammed Kudus, and Xavi Simons also sidelined, Spurs need more firepower.
Rashford's £300,000-a-week salary is a potential obstacle, but he accepted reduced terms to join Barcelona last summer. If he is willing to compromise financially again, Spurs could pursue the winger this summer.
