Liverpool have been told they must pay a staggering £128 million to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, according to French publication L'Equipe. The 23-year-old has emerged as a top target for the Reds this summer, and an agreement has been reached that could facilitate his departure from the Parc des Princes.
PSG Set £128 Million Price Tag
L'Equipe reports that PSG have slapped a £128 million price tag on Barcola, with Liverpool and Arsenal understood to be the leading contenders for his signature. The French champions are said to be open to selling the winger if they successfully conclude a deal for one-time Liverpool target Yan Diomande, who has reportedly already agreed personal terms with the Parisian side.
This development comes as Liverpool have made only one senior signing so far this summer—Victor Munoz from Osasuna—with Jeremy Jacquet, who signed in January, also officially joining the club. Manager Andoni Iraola was present at Liverpool's AXA training centre in Kirkby this week to assess his squad, and he remains keen to hold on to his core players while acknowledging the need for further reinforcements.
Arsenal Interest Could Clear Path
Working in Liverpool's favour is Arsenal's reported interest in Aston Villa and England star Morgan Rogers. Should the Gunners pursue Rogers, it could leave Liverpool with a clear path to Barcola. PSG are also understood to be eager to sign Maghnes Akliouche from AS Monaco, potentially providing Barcola with additional incentive to seek first-team opportunities elsewhere.
Nevertheless, it appears probable that even if Barcola is available and interested, the asking price will present a significant hurdle for Liverpool.
Ex-Strikers Back Barcola Move
Two former strikers have concurred that Barcola could prove a season-defining acquisition for the Reds. Ex-Liverpool forward Emile Heskey believes securing the PSG star would represent a remarkable coup. Heskey told BOYLE Sports: "Signing Bradley Barcola would be an amazing coup for Liverpool because he provides the pace and directness we've been missing on the left wing. We've been spoiled with Sadio Mané and Luis Díaz, and now we need Barcola to get the fans off their seats again."
Heskey added: "Liverpool looked to have missed out on Yan Diomande to PSG, but that could open the door to Barcola leaving, it would be a statement signing for Andoni Iraola that's for sure."
Former Everton and Manchester United forward Louis Saha also backed the move, telling Live Football Tickets: "Bradley Barcola is a terrific player. He has already won two Champions Leagues, and he could even win the World Cup over the next few weeks, his achievements for such a young player are staggering. He has become a much-improved player over the past few seasons, he gets better and better every year, and he can go right to the very top of football."
Saha continued: "What Barcola needs is to move somewhere where he is going to be first choice in his position week in, week out. His confidence will improve ten-fold once that happens, and then he will be a way more dangerous player. He has enormous potential, and I'm not surprised Liverpool are looking at him. They need a replacement for Mohamed Salah, and Cody Gakpo has looked uncomfortable at times for them out wide. Barcola could easily fill either of those positions."
Transfer Window Context
Liverpool have been relatively quiet in the transfer window so far, with only Victor Munoz arriving from Osasuna. The Reds are expected to be active in the market, and a move for Barcola would signal their intent to compete at the highest level. However, the £128 million fee could prove prohibitive, and Liverpool may need to offload players to fund the deal.
