Heskey: Jones May Follow McTominay's Path Away from Liverpool
Heskey: Jones Could Emulate McTominay with Move

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has stated that Curtis Jones might consider leaving Liverpool this summer if the club cannot meet his demands. The 25-year-old midfielder has only one year remaining on his current contract at Anfield.

Jones has attracted interest from Serie A side Inter, with reports in Italy indicating that the two clubs are in negotiations over a potential transfer. The England international is seeking more regular first-team football to solidify his place in the national squad.

Heskey drew a comparison with Scott McTominay, who left Manchester United for Napoli and has since become a key player for Scotland. "I'd be very surprised if he's not pushing for a new contract," Heskey told LiveFootballTickets. "So there's something there that tells me that they're not willing to offer him what he wants."

He added: "He's got ambitions to be a regular England player. So he needs to be playing regularly, and I think he can become a regular England player but he needs to be playing regularly at his club."

Heskey believes Jones has the ability to thrive elsewhere, much like McTominay. "You look at Scott McTominay who’s gone on to play in Italy and he’s been lauded for it. He's actually changed the way people look at him as a footballer, and I think Curtis has got the ability to do that."

Regarding Cody Gakpo, Heskey suggested the Dutch forward might also seek a move for more playing time. "I think Gakpo’s found it very difficult at times playing in England. The pressures are playing in England. It's not easy. He's found it tough. I'm not sure if left wing is his most natural position or is it number nine? We don't know as of yet."

Gakpo has made 180 appearances for Liverpool since joining in 2023, scoring 50 goals and providing 23 assists.
