East Links Family Park in Dunbar, East Lothian, will close its gates for the final time on August 31 after operating for 25 years. The family-run attraction confirmed the closure following the rejection of its planning application to relocate to a new farm 10 minutes away. An appeal against the council's decision was also dismissed, leaving the park with no option but to shut down.
Relocation Plans Rejected by Council
The park had sought permission to move to a nearby farm site, but East Lothian Council turned down the application. The subsequent appeal was also unsuccessful, as confirmed by the park's social media statement. The lease on the current site, located in Dunbar, is expiring after a quarter-century of operation, forcing the closure.
Community Reaction: 'Huge Loss' for the Area
Local families expressed devastation at the news. One visitor wrote: "I'm very sad to read this. We, like many others, have had many happy family times with you, when our kids were younger." Another commented: "Huge loss for the area, great for young kids and adults alike, great memories on the bikes and feeding the animals. Loved the goats. Was hoping I would get to take my grandkids here one day." A third added: "It's a huge huge loss for East Lothian. All the best wishes."
Park's Offerings and Legacy
East Links Family Park attracted families with a range of activities, including animal enclosures, train rides, go-karts, trampolines, and a bouncy castle. The park had been a staple of family entertainment in the region for 25 years, creating cherished memories for generations.
Future Plans: Move to Clyde Valley Family Park
The park's management confirmed that the "wonderful team," equipment, and animals will be relocated to their Clyde Valley Family Park in South Lanarkshire, south of Glasgow, which opened in 2018. In a closure statement on social media, the team said: "Thank you all for 25 years of fun and family memories, and we hope you will join us for the next chapter at Clyde Valley Family Park!" A spokesperson added: "Thank you all for the wonderful outpouring of love and memories! It means so much to hear how much the park we created means to you all. Hope to see you all this summer and at Clyde Valley next year!"
Social Media Overwhelmed with Tributes
Following the announcement, the business was forced to close comments on its social media posts, citing "far too many for us to read them all." The outpouring of support highlighted the park's significance to the community.
