East Kilbride manager Mick Kennedy has revealed that the club successfully resisted interest from a Championship side to keep striker Cami Elliott at K-Park. Elliott, 27, played a pivotal role in the club's back-to-back promotions from the Lowland League to League One, although an injury in February sidelined him for two months during the title run-in.
The forward netted seven goals in 30 appearances last season for the newly-promoted League One outfit. However, his contributions extend beyond scoring, with Kennedy praising his energy, physicality, and technical abilities. Elliott's decision to remain was influenced by his previous experience as a full-time professional in Ireland, which he felt was not financially viable to repeat.
Kennedy told Lanarkshire Live Sport: "We have done well to keep Cami. There was an offer from a Championship club for him, but I think the financial circumstances didn't make sense for him, having to go full-time. I'm delighted to keep him because he has been a massive part of what we've achieved over the last few years."
Kennedy added: "Anyone that looks at Cami, he brings so much legs and energy and physicality. He has great endeavour, works so hard, and he has a lot of technical attributes that he doesn't get credit for. As a number nine at the Championship, he has an ideal profile but for Cami, his spell being in Ireland full-time and coming back here, he felt it didn't make sense for him to go full-time again."
One in, one out at K-Park
In other transfer news, defender Rhys Breen has departed for NIFL Premiership side Portadown, while the club has signed midfielder Euan Ross from Queen of the South. A club statement read: "East Kilbride Football Club are delighted to welcome midfielder, Euan Ross to the club upon the expiry of his contract at Queen Of The South. The 21-year-old will join Kilby when the transfer window opens, subject to Scottish FA approval."
Ross becomes the ninth summer signing for East Kilbride, joining Malik Zaid, Ally Spalding, Rhys Armstrong, Craig McGuffie, Timam Scott, Aaron Steele, Finlay Gray, and Chris McKenna. The club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the upcoming League One campaign.
