Celtic have won the race to sign highly-rated teenage goalkeeper Warren Lyall from Dundee, beating off major English competition including Arsenal. The 16-year-old Scotland youth international has signed his first professional contract with the Hoops, with Dundee due compensation for losing their academy graduate.
Interest from Arsenal and Others
Lyall had a number of summer options and was on Arsenal's radar, having completed a training stint with the Gunners back in February. Despite Dundee's efforts to retain him, the growing interest from top clubs made it a losing battle. Celtic's capture of Lyall is considered a major coup for the club.
Youth Career Highlights
Lyall was part of the Dundee team that reached the final of the Scottish Youth Cup a couple of seasons ago. He also gained experience playing for Dundee's under-20 team in the Challenge Cup against Elgin City in November. He will initially join Celtic's B team, working under coaches Johnny Hayes, Stevie Hammell, and goalkeeping coach Colin Meldrum.
Additional Signing
Celtic have also snapped up young defender Shea McGarry from Cliftonville, further strengthening their youth ranks.
