Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Scotland international goalkeeper Angus Gunn on a free transfer, according to The Sun. The 30-year-old has been released by Nottingham Forest after just one year at the club, where he made only a single appearance.
United's Goalkeeping Situation
Senne Lammens has established himself as United's first-choice goalkeeper after an impressive debut season. However, the club is set for a reshuffle behind him. Altay Bayindir served as backup last season, while Andre Onana spent the campaign on loan at Trabzonspor and has now returned to Old Trafford. Neither is expected to remain at the club, with United looking to offload Onana and interest in Bayindir from Besiktas in Turkey.
If both depart, veteran Tom Heaton, who signed a new one-year contract this summer at age 40, would be the only reserve option behind Lammens. As a result, United are searching for a goalkeeper willing to play second fiddle.
Gunn's Profile
Angus Gunn joined Nottingham Forest last summer on a one-year deal but was released after featuring just once. Despite limited club action, he remains Scotland's first-choice goalkeeper at the ongoing World Cup, having started all three group matches in the United States.
Gunn has limited Premier League experience, with nine top-flight appearances for Norwich City in the 2021/22 season and 22 for Southampton from 2018 to 2020. However, he has accumulated over 200 professional appearances, predominantly in the Championship.
Other Targets
United have also been linked with Leeds United's Karl Darlow and Wolves' Sam Johnstone, the latter a product of United's youth academy. Additionally, Radek Vitek is returning from a loan spell at Bristol City, but the 23-year-old is likely to seek a permanent move to secure first-team football, with interest from Hull City and Coventry City.
